Before losing 2-0 to Arsenal last night Bayern had won twelve games in a row, in the process making Bundesliga history by winning their first nine games. When the draw for the Champions League was made this was the game I was most looking forward to and it did not disappoint. The goals came late, in fact Özil’s was not until the third minute of stoppage time but the game was not short on excitement. There were a fair amount of chances for both Bayern and Arsenal but it was to be the night of the goalkeepers with both Neuer and Cech making several world class saves.
By now you’d think it was impossible for Neuer to impress you, that with all the incredible saves he’s made in the past, it would be impossible for him to top any of those. Last night he did just that, it may have been his mistake which led to Arsenal’s first goal but that’s not what will be remembered from the game. The return leg of the fixture two weeks from now is guaranteed to be epic. Equally so should Leverkusen’s trip to Roma. Their game ended 4-4. After going 2-0, Roma pulled two back, then went on to score two more. But Leverkusen weren’t finished, they pulled back two of their own with the fourth goal being scored by former Freiburger Admir Mehmedi in the 86th minute.
